Storm Warnings:
Blizzard Warning - snow and strong
winds combined will produce blinding snow, near zero
visibility, deep drifts and strong winds -- seek shelter
immediately.
Coastal Flood Watch - the possibility
exists for the flooding along coastal areas within
12 - 36 hours
Coastal Flood Warning - land
areas along the coast are expected to be flooded
Flash Flood or Flood Watch -
be prepared to evacuate with little notice.
Flash Flood Warning - A flash
flood is imminent act quickly!
Flood Warning - Flooding has
been reported or imminent- take precautions.
Frost/Freeze Warning - below
freezing temperatures are expected and may cause damage
to plants, crops or fruit trees.
Hurricane - a tropical cyclone
with maximum sustained winds of at least 74 miles per
hour (classes of hurricanes).
Also referred to as Typhoons and Cyclones.
Hurricane Watch - hurricane conditions
are possible in your area within 36 hours
Hurricane Warning - hurricane
conditions are expected in your area in 24 hours
or less
Storm Suge - a large dome of
water often 50-100 miles wide that sweeps the coast.
The stronger teh urricane and the shallower the water
offshore the higher the surge will be.
Storm Tide - if the storm surge
arrives at the same time as high tide the water height
will be even greater
Tropical Wave - low pressure
trough moving westward in the trade winds
Tropical Disturbance - an organized
area of showers and thunderstorms that forms in the
tropics. Typically accompanied by heavy rains and gusty
winds
Tropical Depression - an organized
area of tropial low pressure in which sustained winds
are 38 miles per hour or less.
Tropical Storm - an organized
system of strong thunderstorms with a defined circulation
and mximum sustained wind speeds that range from 39-73
miles per hour.
Tropical Storm Warning - tropical
storm conditions are expected in the area within
24 hours
Winter Storm Watch - a storm
is likely stay alert
Winter Storm Warning - the storm
is in or entering the area take action
Winter Weather Advisory - winter
weather conditions are expected to cause problems, conditions
may be hazardous especially when driving.
