Beach Safety

- Children should never be left unattended on a beach
- Swim near a lifeguard
- Never swim alone
- Beware of rip current or under-toe, swim sideways until free. Don't swim against the current's draw. Children are especially susceptible to rip currents.
- Alcohol and swimming are not a good combination.
- If swimming long distances swim parallel to the shore
- Learn CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation)
- Don't rely on "floaties" to protect children in the water
- Do not use glass containers on the beach
- Do not dive into shallow breaking waves.
- Do not swim near piers or jetties.
