Fire Prevention :

Brush / Home Fires -

Be sure to clear trees and brush that is close to your house.
Remove dead or overhanging branches. Prune shrubbery
Remove all needles and debris from rain gutters.
Store all combustible / flammable materials away from house, in approved storage containers.
Do not mix chemicals.
Do not burn brush during dry season, check with local fire officials before burning.
Remove branches within 10 feet of chimney.

Home Fire -

Do not burn pines trees or wrappings in fire places.
Do not use flammable liquids to start fire in fire place.
Have chimney checked once per year.
Do not use electric space heaters.
Keep adequate clearance around all heaters and registers..
Have electrical checked regularly.

Stack wood piles atleast 25-30 feet from dwellings.

Canyon Fires

If evacuation is not ordered stay inside the house with doors and windows shut.
Fill trash cans with water, after fire passes dip small rugs in to put out spot fires. Dirt can also be used to smother fires.
Close blinds and drapes remove any light weight curtains.
Turn interior and exterior lights on to alert fire department.
Keep brush clear from house.

Wild Fires

Instruct children about the use of matches.
Never leave a fire or cigarette burning unattended.
Always have a way to quickly douse a camp fire (dirt/water).

Seasonal Fires

Be sure that a Christmas Tree is freshly cut. Dry trees are a higher risk. If needles fall easily the tree is old and beginning to dry out.
The larger the tree the greater the risk.
Artificial trees should be fire-resistant, be sure to check the label.
Fir needles snap when fresh, pine needles bend when fresh.
Cut the base of the tree 2 inches from the trunk before putting the tree in a tree stand.
Do not leave lights on when the tree is unattended.
If lights or electrical are damaged don not use
Use only UL approved Christmas lights. Never use candles.
Use a stand that holds a minimum of a gallon of water, and keep this filled on a regular basis.
