General Fire Safety:

- If you are burned put cold water on the burned area immediately
- Every home, hotel or office should have a smoke detector, check the batteries frequently
- If an alarm sounds exit the premises immediately! Do not stop to dress or gather valuables.
- Test doors before opening them to make sure that it is safe on the other safe, watch for smoke seeping in around edges.
- Make sure that exits are clear and that escape ladders are available from all 2nd story bedrooms.
- Always establish an outside meeting place for families. Once out of the house stay out!
- Keep a fire extinguisher handy
- Be sure that buildings are clearly marked with the address. This should be visible from the street.
- Chemicals / plastics can release noxious gasses when burning that can be fatal.
- If you are traveling be certain that you are familiar with a hotels exit system and that they have smoke detection systems in place.
