Sports / Camps Safety :

Things for parents to consider...

1.) Does the sports organization do a security/background check on coaches, assistants or volunteers? What does it include?
2.) Do children use a locker room to dress? If the sport is co-ed are the childrens of opposite sexes supervised by same sexed adults and are there multiple supervisors or adult present in the locker rooms?
3.) What is the coaches or leaders philosphy about sportsmanship? Does the organization have a code of ethics?
4.) Are there multiple adults that supervise travel or sleep-overs?
5.) Does your child "like" the coach are they comfortable with them? Listen to what your child is saying.

Dialogue with children and more

1.) Be open and honest with your child. Children should be taught it is OK to say no to an adult who makes them feel uncomfortable.
2.) Trust your instinct, if you or your child is uncomfortable with a situation follow your intuition.
3.) Remember winning isn't everything, encourage your child to enjoy the game and try their best, that is what matters./
4.) Be wary of private lessons or special attention given to specific children. All players and children should be treated equally.
5.) Locker rooms and practices should always be open to parents.
